WILDERNESS EMT UPGRADE COURSE | SPRING 2022 | UTICA, NY
Wilderness EMT Upgrade is an additional training designed for medical personnel who would like to enhance their skills and experience for use in rural, wilderness, and technical rescue setting. This course is geared toward to EMS providers looking to broaden their skills in remote environments. The WEMT curriculum builds on EMS training and expertise to meet the special challenges inherent in delayed access to medical care environments. It is designed for medical personnel working in EMS, search and rescue, law enforcement, disaster response, and on wilderness expeditions.
NASAR’s nationally recognized curriculum encompasses a wide range of topics including long-term patient care, wound management, selective spine immobilization, reducing dislocations, litter packaging, and epinephrine administration. Dynamic educators who have practiced medicine in both wilderness and urban environments will teach you skills and protocols to step forward in an emergency, and you will finish the intensive 40+ hour course with the tools and confidence to manage patients in the unique environments for multiple days.
Upon successful course completion you will earn the following certifications:
– Wilderness EMT Upgrade
– BLS for Professional Rescuers (CPR)
CLASS FORMAT AND PERSONAL PREPAREDNESS
The course will run on an extended schedule, a Spring Semester of the WFR Program, January to April to provide flexibility to those attending school and/or working. This course will be a Hybrid Course offering options for attending.The Course will be every Tuesday night and will vary between being a Lecture night which will be 6pm-8:30pm and Lab nights which will be from 5pm-9pm. There will also be occasional All-Day Saturday Labs which will run approximately 10am-6:30pm.
There are 2 options for attending the Lecture night :
- In-Person at the ThINCubator
- Virtually from home/work
Lectures will be facilitated through Google Meet with an additional presentation program. Regardless of whether you are in-person or virtual, you will want to have a laptop and/or tablet to follow along in the lecture and discussion. There will be additional information in your course materials. All your course work will be facilitated through Google Classroom.
Lab Skills and testing will take place both inside and outside. You will want to bring outdoor clothing with you regardless. You will also want to bring your outdoor gear to use and practice with; additional information will be provided in your course materials
